Medical Mission at Memorial Baptist Church, 2800 S. Yale, every 1st and 3rd Thursday, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Park Plaza and Asbury United Methodist began partnering with Good Samaritan Health Services in 2000 to bring the compassion and caring of the church together with health care for the under served.
This Mission started at Normandy through Shannon Davis and Frank Lott of Tulsa Urban Ministries (now Tulsa Neighborhood Networks), so being able to offer health care to what we were already doing was an added bonus. G.S.H.S. provides a 35' fully equipped mobile medical unit along with a nurse.
Park Plaza and Asbury are responsible for providing the other volunteers (doctors, nurses, intake workers, prayer partners). We usually have at least 6 volunteers each time for the 24 scheduled clinics and this past year we have had about 32 volunteers work at one time or another (15 from Park Plaza).
While this Medical Mission began as the third site for the medical van, there are now 12 different sites partnered by different churches around the city. In 2001 we saw approximately 257 patients at our site. In 2005, that number had increased to 429. If you are interested in becoming part of the caring group of individuals ministering to those burdened with health care needs, please give us a call.
We always need more doctors to volunteer and would really appreciate having a pharmacist to help with meds. We are currently in need of a prayer partner to work with us on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
