BENEVOLENCE ACTIVITY
F
OOD BANK: Park Plaza operates a food pantry for the benefit of families in our community who are less fortunate than ourselves. This effort is supported by our weekly benevolence contributions and numerous members who
have volunteered to work a 2 1/2 hour shift on a weekly basis.
Most of the food we distribute is obtained from the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma (CFBEO) and supplemented with individual donations and purchases from Sam's Club, Mrs Baird's Bread, or other grocery outlets. The Park Plaza Food Bank is open from 10:00AM to 3:00PM, Monday through Thursday.
The number of families served on a monthly basis has averaged 363 over the last year. A family can come to the Food Bank 4 times each calendar year. Visits must be separated by at least 30 days. Each family receives 2 sacks of food on each visit. The amount of food distributed over the last 12 months weighed 116,665 pounds. The estimated retail value of the food distributed annually is $148,000.
MEMBER ASSISTANCE: Occasionally, some short term assistance is discreetly provided to members of the Church. The need for this assistance is usually brought to the attention of and directed by the Elders. Some examples of the type of assistance occasionally provided are Pharmaceuticals (Non Narcotic), Housing, Transportation, Utilities and Counseling.
FLOWER FUND: Flowers given in the name of the Park Plaza Congregation are paid for through the benevolence contributions.
